TIVADOK Dock Boards are created specifically for waterside projects
Probably the most challenging part of owning a home by the water is creating a dock that lasts. Just ask Danielle, whose family owns a cottage on Georgian Bay and who we met at our Burlington, Ontario location just a few months ago.
“I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I said that we have replaced, fixed or altered our dock every year since it was put in place almost 17 years ago,” says Danielle. “Whether it’s due to water levels or rot, it seems as if our dock is always in a state of repair. It’s not cheap either and takes time to get people out to the cottage to make the necessary repairs. We ultimately just want a dock that works when we’re up there; not one that we have to work on during our limited vacation time.”
Danielle is just one of our Canadian clients seriously considering the switch from traditional pressure-treated lumber to our TIVADOK, PVC Cellular Dock Boards.
“We see so many clients struggle to keep their docks in working order,” says Megan Fangrad, Sales Manager, TIVA Building Products. “They are up against a double whammy…water from below and sun from above. The combination of those two powerful elements leaves rot, mildew, fading and cracking in its wake. The key in creating outdoor spaces for areas exposed to water is to use products that have zero organic material.”
TIVADOK Simply Outperforms and Outlasts its Wooden Counterparts
TIVADOK is a unique option for those looking to create docks that last. With no organic material in sight, these deck boards are not affected by moisture in summer or during the harsher winter months.
Unlike traditional wooden docks, TIVADOK Cellular PVC Boards are made with an aluminum-reinforced core that is surrounded by an Acrylonitrile-Styrene-Acrylate (ASA) capstock. Not only does the capstock resist fading, staining and rotting, but the inner core of the boards is such that it can achieve up to 24” spans in building, making it much more desirable for dock builders.
That isn’t all that makes TIVADOK stand apart. With its unique properties and ASA Technology, TIVADOK promises an end product that is:
- UV-resistant
- Stain-resistant
- Scratch-resistant
- Suitable for harsh climates
- Moisture-resistant
- Mold and mildew-resistant
“What I really like about TIVADOK for our cottage is that it has a slightly raised surface providing more traction when wet,” adds Danielle. “I have three very active kids who love nothing more than to run down the dock and fly into the water. Knowing that they have a bit more grip puts my mind at ease. The added benefit of no more slivers will put my kids’ minds are at ease too.”
Plus, the additional benefit of its ability to weather-well means that it can handle the harsh winters many clients dread. Depending on the location of your dock and factors such as wind and ice, plus the strength of your fastening systems, you can be confident that your dock boards will last throughout the winter with minimal wear and tear.
TIVADOK Care and Maintenance
That said, while TIVADOK was created to limit maintenance, there are a few tips to help prolong the optimal look and performance of your dock:
- For dirt and debris removal, beyond power washing, periodic washing of the product using an all-surface biodegradable household cleaning product is recommended, using a firm, natural fibre cleaning brush. Using solvent-based or harsh cleaning products will void the product warranty.
- For rust removal, a biodegradable toilet bowl cleaner should be used. It is always best to test all cleaning products on a scrap piece of board or on a small inconspicuous area of your dock.
- Chemicals found in products such as sunblock or insect repellent can cause discolouration or damage the decking surface. Avoid using these products on your dock or use with care.
- Avoid leaving pool covers and toys, rubber-backed items, tarps and other such non-porous materials on your boards for an extended period of time as they can cause discolouration.
Aesthetically Pleasing Docks
Available in two colours – Elmwood (a grey-base) and Beechwood (a brown-base), it is easy to create the look you want right on the water. Plus, with matching colours for the TIVADEK series, you can be assured that you will have a consistent look from water to land without compromising beauty for function. Plus, when you build using colour matched screws or your chosen hidden fastening system, the look is elevated to a whole new level.
That said, when you select your PVC docking material, you are tied to the colour and look that you’ve selected, so be very certain before you buy. It cannot be stained or painted if you want to change your colour palette. However, PVC is significantly more comfortable under-foot than its wooden counterparts and allows the homeowners to simply install and enjoy, with little annual maintenance required. If anything does go wrong, you are covered with optimal warranties. TIVADOK comes with a limited-lifetime warranty and a 50-year warranty against fading and staining, something you won’t get with wood.
At TIVA Building Products, we invested years in plastics’ research, development and testing. We took time to focus on quality, performance and features. And then we took more time to perfect them. When you purchase any of our TIVA Building Products, you can rest-assured that you can enjoy your deck for years to come with little maintenance required. All enjoyment, little work. That’s the TIVA promise.
